Books- I LOVE books because they're different from my life, and that's nice for me. I like my life- don't get me wrong. But sometimes, an escape is all you have. And we have to be content with that. It's wonderful to get away, and I love hearing about other people's lives.
Movies- I love movies because I like to see the lives of characters acted out. Why live your life when you can watch someone live theirs, I guess I've been thinking. It always gives you a (totally false) sense of how things are in other people's shoes.
